Hill County JDAI

Hill County's Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative (JDAI) made progress during the last two years toward improving the effectiveness of the juvenile justice system. JDAI has assisted in accomplishing the goals of rehabilitating youthful offenders and curtailing juvenile crime. Over 20 stakeholders from throughout Hill and Blaine Counties are actively involved and the results are encouraging.
Since the closure of the Blaine County juvenile detention facility in June 2009, the youthful offender rates have decreased. We are uncertain of the cause for the decrease at this point, but are encouraged by the decrease in numbers.
Since JDAI began in 2007, there has been a 58% decrease in Hill County's juvenile detention population. The total number of youth in Hill County has decreased, while the percentages for male and female remained relatively constant. The male detention population decreased by 67% while the female population decreased by 35%.
